FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT TRANSMISSION REPAIR IN SAULT STE. MARIE

Do you have questions or concerns about transmission repair in Sault Ste. Marie and surrounding areas of Ontario and Michigan? You’re not alone! The phrase “transmission trouble” can make nearly any motorist’s blood run cold because it is traditionally associated with expensive repairs.

The truth is transmission problems can be simple or complex, and if they are identified in time can often be remedied at an affordable cost. The following are some of the questions we hear most often from our customers. If you have a question that is not addressed here, or if you would like to schedule a service appointment, please contact our office

Q: How often should I change my transmission fluid?
DOC: When buying a new vehicle, I would recommend that you follow the manufacturer’s suggestions for the first time (you may find this in your owner’s manual). After that, most transmission experts suggest that the fluid and filter be changed about every 2 years, or 30 to 40 000 km

Q: What does it cost to have my transmission checked?
DOC: An initial diagnosis to determine if your vehicle’s problem is transmission related is free. This includes a road test and a preliminary scan to determine if any error codes exist. If we find that the problem is transmission related, it takes a qualified technician to diagnose the actual problem and to determine the proper course of action and cost.

Q: How much will it cost to rebuild my transmission?
DOC: The cost to rebuild a transmission will depend on how much damage has been done to the parts inside. We can only determine this by disassembling the transmission. However, just because your transmission has a problem, it doesn’t mean it needs a rebuild

Q: How long will it take to fix my vehicle?
DOC: Many transmission problems are fairly easy to solve after a proper diagnosis and can be completed in one day. However, if your problem is major and requires surgery (removal of the transmission), most vehicles can be repaired in 2 business days.

Q: Will I void my warranty if I have my vehicle fixed by you?
DOC: Sault Transmission is a member of the ATRA (Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association) and as such we are affiliated with over 2500 transmission shops in Canada, The U.S. and Mexico. If you ever have a problem with a transmission that we have repaired, no matter where you are, I’m sure there will be a qualified transmission shop close by to attend your problem.
